How to Get Here

Hotel Adonis is located in Apollonas, a small, picturesque seaside village on the northeastern coast of Naxos. It is situated 36 km from the port and Naxos Town (Chora). Following the coastal road, the drive to Apollonas takes approximately 50 minutes. For travelers wishing to discover the hidden treasures of Naxos and explore its many charming and authentic villages, Apollonas is one of the best starting points for your journey.

If you do not have your own means of transportation, our hotel offers a private 7-seater vehicle that can pick you up from the port or airport of Naxos upon arrival, and take you back on the day of your departure — upon prior arrangement. Additionally, we have a rental car available on-site. In Naxos Town you can also rent a car, motorcycle, or quad bike. Public transportation (KTEL buses) is also available.

The Beach of Apollonas

Apollonas boasts a wonderful, long beach with crystal-clear, turquoise waters. The beach caters to all preferences, as part of it is sandy while another part is covered with small or larger pebbles. It is ideal for families with children, couples, nature lovers, and fishing enthusiasts. Access to the beach is easy, as an asphalted road runs along its length. The beach is equipped with facilities for visitors with disabilities, showers, and changing areas.

Hotel Adonis is located just a 2-minute walk from the beautiful beach of Apollonas. Some of our rooms also offer stunning views of the Aegean Sea!

Shops & Dining in Apollonas

If you choose not to dine at our hotel’s restaurant — where we serve lunch and dinner prepared with fresh, organic products from the Adonis garden — you can enjoy one of the traditional tavernas or café-bar-restaurants in the village. There are also two small shops selling local souvenirs and tourist items.

Sights in Apollonas

There is no sight more magical than nature itself! We highly recommend waking up early one morning to enjoy the spectacular sunrise, which during the summer months rises directly from the sea of Apollonas, painting the sky with magnificent colors.

Nature lovers should also visit the Apollonas stream — a small nearby river offering a peaceful walk through the area’s local flora and fauna.

One of the most famous attractions in the village is the enormous, unfinished statue of the god Dionysus — the Kouros of Apollonas. Made of Naxian marble and measuring over 10 meters in length, it dates back to the Archaic period (7th–6th century BC). The statue was abandoned at the site where it was carved, most likely due to large cracks that appeared during its sculpting. The Kouros lies within the ancient marble quarry of Apollonas, one of the two ancient quarries of Naxos, which supplied raw materials and finished marble products to the sanctuary of Delos and other regions of the ancient Greek world. The Kouros is only a 10-minute walk from Hotel Adonis, and is also accessible by car from the main road.

The mountain of Apollonas, Kalogerós, is another symbol of the village. Standing proudly above the sea, it offers breathtaking views to those who choose to hike to its summit. There, you can also admire the ruins of the “Castle of Kalogeros,” which was used from prehistoric times through the Byzantine era and the period of Turkish rule. Remains include a prehistoric tower with Cyclopean walls and several Byzantine structures (towers, rooms, and cisterns). The hike from Apollonas to the top takes about one hour. Start early to avoid descending in the dark!

Lastly, for fishing lovers, the pier of Apollonas and the rocky area of Kafkara on the far side of the village are perfect spots to watch local fishermen at work — or to cast a line yourself!
